Hvordan måler vi egentligt succes i kunstig intelligens? I dag dominerer teknologisk kapløb og markedsandele, men hvis AI skal udvikles på en måde, der gavner mennesker og samfund, har vi brug for nye parametre. Hvordan sikrer vi, at AI ikke kun handler om økonomisk vækst, men også om demokrati, etik og menneskerettigheder?

Europa står ved et vendepunkt, hvor behovet for en værdibaseret AI-politik er større end nogensinde. Danmark overtager snart EU-formandskabet og har en enestående mulighed for at sætte retningen for en menneskecentrisk tilgang til kunstig intelligens.

På dette morgenmøde præsenterer forfatter og internationalt anerkendte tech kritiker Gry Hasselbalch sin nye bog Human Power – Seven Traits for the Politics of the AI Machine Age, der undersøger, hvordan vi kan styre AI med fokus på menneskelige værdier. Bogen bygger bl.a. på hendes arbejde med EU’s tilgang til AI, herunder i EU’s AI High Level Expert Group og EU’s globale AI diplomati.

Herefter følger en paneldebat, hvor vi diskuterer Danmarks rolle i at drive AI-agendaen i EU, og hvordan vi måler succes i AI-politik på andre måder end blot teknologisk og økonomisk dominans med bl.a. førende EU tech politiker Paul Nemitz, Danmarks fungerende tech-ambassadør Ditte Bjerregaard og formand for Folketingets Udvalg for Digitalisering og IT Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen. 

Paul Nemitz var indtil 1. marts 2025 Principal Adviser for the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers i Europakommissionen med kernefokus på kunstig intelligens. Før det har han været Director for Fundamental Rights and Citizens’ Rights samme sted, hvor han blandt andet ledte reformen af den europæiske databeskyttelseslovgivning (GDPR), samt forhandlingerne om EU-US Privacy Shield aftalen.

Den danske tech-ambassadørs kontor har et globalt mandat, og er etableret med det formål at gøre teknologi og digitalisering til en tværgående udenrigs- og sikkerhedspolitisk prioritet. Ditte Bjerregaard har tidligere stået i spidsen for den danske strategi for teknologisk diplomati, den danske regerings kvantestrategi og etableringen af International QuantumHub i Udenrigsministeriet. Ditte har en mangeårig diplomatisk karriere, især med fokus på nye og kommende udfordringer samt Arktis.

Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen har siden 2011 siddet i Folketinget for Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF). Lisbeth har gennem sin politiske karrierer været ordfører for IT og tech siden 2016 samt har yderligere siden 2023 været formand for Udvalget for Digitalisering og IT. Udvalget beskæftiger sig med alle emner inden for it og digitalisering i den offentlige og private sektor, herunder it-modernisering, anvendelse af kunstig intelligens og it-sikkerhed. Udvalget har i sit arbejde fokus på borgernes rettigheder og retssikkerhed, databeskyttelse samt dataetiske problemstillinger.

How can we measure success in artificial intelligence? Today, the dominant logics are the race to technological primacy and increase in market shares, but if AI is to be developed in a way that benefits people and society, we need new measurements for success. How do we ensure that AI is not solely about economic growth, but is also democracy, ethics and human rights?

Europe is at an inflection point where the need for value-based AI-politics is greater than ever. Denmark will soon assume the EU presidency and has a unique opportunity to set the course for a human-centric approach to artificial intelligence.

At this event author and international recognized tech critic Gry Hasselbalch presents her new book Human Power – Seven Traits for the Politics of the AI Machine Age, which investigates how we can control AI by focusing on the human values. The book builds, among other things, upon her work with the EU’s approach to AI, including her involvement in EU’s AI High Level Expert Group and EU’s global AI diplomacy. 

Subsequently a panel will debate on Denmark’s role in driving the AI agenda in the EU, and how to measure success in AI-politics using other gauges than technological and economic dominance. In the panel is EU tech politician Paul Nemitz and Ditte Bjerregaard, Denmark’s acting Tech-ambassador.

Paul Nemitz was until the 1st of March 2025 Principal Adviser to the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers at the European Commission with a special focus on artificial intelligence. Prior to this, he was Director for Fundamental Rights and Citizens’ Rights also at the European Commission, where he among other things led the reform of the European data protection legislation (GDPR) and the negotiation on EU-US Privacy Shield agreement.

Ditte Bjerregaard is the acting Tech-ambassador for Denmark, whose office has a global mandate, and is established with the purpose of making technology and digitalization a transversal priority for foreign and security policy.

Ditte has previously led the Danish strategy for technological diplomacy, the Danish Government’s quantum strategy and the establishment of International Quantum Hub within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Ditte has an esteemed diplomatic carreer, focusing particularly on nye and emerging challenges as well as the Arctic region.

Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen (SF) has been a member of the Danish Parliament since 2011. She has since 2016 served as spokesperson for IT and tech, and since 2023, she has also chaired The Digitalisation and IT Committee. The committee addresses any topic associated with IT and digitalisation in the public and private sectors, including IT modernisation, the application of AI and IT security. In its work, the committee focuses on issues related to citizens’ rights and legal certainty, personal data protection and data ethics
